Narciso Rodriguez, a man after my own heart

Picture 1 of 4

I rarely ever make New Year’s resolutions as I have a list of goals that I add to year-round. One of my most recent (that just happens to coincide with the New Year) is to cut back on the [possibly yeast infection inducing] skin-tight jeans I find myself wearing 99% of the time. They are often the easiest option but are not even almost practical for my new ever-hot locale.

Perhaps I have also gotten to one of those points in life where I feel the need to make some “dramatic” change to prove that I’m growing …as a person? As a result I’ve found myself gravitating towards clean lines, light fabrics and pieces that are subtly more grown up to what I’m used to wearing i.e. everything in the Narciso Rodriguez Sping 2013 collection. The slinky barely there straps, slouchy trousers and not overtly sexy sexiness sum up everything I want to be wearing right now although I’m sure it would be a challenge to let go of my recent skinny jeans and graphic tee uniform.

Getting Comfortable

Comfy Graphic tee

Lately I’ve had the urge to peel off my skinny jeans and slip into something a little more comfortable like these slouchy pants. I’m not sure where this is coming from as pants like this have never made it to my closet…but I’m guessing it just might have something to do with these two.

The Age of Over-Sharing

I have many a guilty pleasure but my worst is perhaps YouTube beauty videos. Although I am very low maintenance with makeup and skincare and hardly ever change the products I use, I find myself spending hours on YouTube looking (mostly listening…this is also the age of mutli-tasking) at product “haul” videos and favourites videos.

I blame it on the culture of voyeurism the internet and perhaps reality tv have created. Wanting a peek into someone else’s life- wanting to see what products other people are using, what they bought, what they are wearing, how they organise it all. We’re a pretty curious generation. But while I’m all for information sharing, I’ve started noticing quite a bit over-sharing.

YouTubers are all real people, with lives, this I know. A little bit of mystery with these lives would not be bad. Instead there are “Get Ready with Me” videos with vloggers in the shower, “What’s in My Shower” videos showing feminine hygiene products and a “join me in the delivery room” video.

We are already invited into homes, we know what whatever part of your house you film in looks like, what you put on you face or do to your hair before you go to bed, but now we’re getting invited into delivery rooms and showers? If there were ever a moment to use or overuse the acronym TMI it would be now.

This over sharing does however speak volumes of how competitive blogging and vlogging have been become. But how far are we willing to go to be the first or best or most original? While I understand that some have made this online life into a career I think there are many who need to take a hard look at their content and determine whether half of what they are doing is necessary. Is using already watered down tags and including irrelevant information or imagery really a good, competitive strategy?

The Prodigal Blogger and Pencil Skirts

I’m back! I’ve been playing Silent Observer of Fashion Industry High; reading about the cat fights, mean notesdesigner bullies and diva-tudes but I did not had much desire to write. Here I am once again though, ready to…do whatever it is I was doing here. My first gift to you…collages!

I have been going crazy for pencil skirts lately. So versatile and not too fussy.

Daintiness revisited

I remember when I decided that I needed a watch of the boyfriend-variety; something kind of chunky and loose enough to slide up and down my fore-arm but fitted enough not to fall off. I shopped around, (thankfully avoiding the ubiquitous Michael Kors ones) and found a beaut from Fossil, which was a huge joke to anyone who looks at The Jersey Shore.

It was the perfect accent piece and added a certain amount of dressiness to casual outfits,  but after spending a few weeks without it (the battery died) I have come to realize that I do not need the constant bling. What I do miss though is being able to look at my wrist when I needed the time, so I have started a search for a new time piece.

These are my six options. I have always wanted an all black watch for some reason, something simple and cool (I do realize that these ones aren’t dainty but the are a lot less flashy than my current one) but I also love navy blue leather. Something more traditional however, may make the most sense. Decisions, decisions.
